A huge gaming and entertainment company has been developing, publishing, and globally distributing video games and casino slot machines for over five decades. The company is currently focused on its mission to make casino loyalty cards and slot machines even more enjoyable.
Business Situation
Recently, customers of the global gaming company have been requesting greater interactivity with casino loyalty cards and slot terminals. The company believes that the use of host card emulation (HCE) with near field communication (NFC)-enabled Apple iOS and Android mobile phones and NFC-enabled cards will replace magnetic stripe customer loyalty cards, modernizing today’s gaming experience.
Technical Situation
The company chose not to build its own NFC controller, but rather, decided to partner with Identiv’s team of smart card reader experts. With requirements not initially available in its module offerings, Identiv set out to create a custom smart card reader board to address the gaming company’s specific needs.
