Customer Profile
Built on a major 170-square-mile U.S. Army base, a new health clinic will provide medical, dental, and veterinary services to service men and women in the Army and Department of Defense (DoD) — the clinic will not provide emergency room, inpatient, or surgery services. The clinic will be a part of the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM).
Business Situation
The current health clinic on the base is one of the oldest operating medical facilities in the U.S., while the new clinic will become the fifth to operate on-post. Two contractors involved in building and outfitting the new facility were tasked with researching and hiring a company to provide a complete physical access control system (PACS) solution for the clinic. The solution needed to secure 114 doors.
Technical Situation
Overseeing the project, the Health and Planning Agency (HFPA) required a Certificate of Networthiness (CoN) in order for the new systems to connect to the Army medical network, verifying compliance with security, interoperability, supportability, sustainability, and usability regulations. Though originally a competing brand was specified for the project, the HFPA had already successfully deployed Identiv’s Hirsch Velocity Software at another U.S. army base and was committed to growing the deployment.
Solution
The HFPA paved the way for the new U.S. Army health clinic to adopt a complete Identiv PACS solution, including Hirsch Velocity Software for security management, Hirsch Mx Controllers for controlling and securing doors, and Federal Identity, Credential, and Access Management (FICAM)-certified uTrust TS Government Readers.
Identiv’s Hirsch Velocity Software security management system provides the security and functionality expected from high-end systems with the ease-of-use found in entry-level packages. The integrated platform can manage access control and security operations in thousands of different facilities, from single high secure rooms to multi-building, multi-location campuses with the most stringent security compliance.
Award-winning Hirsch Mx Controllers provide scalable, networked communication, are available in two, four, or eight supervised door models, and can support up to 4000 users. Mx is the core of the Hirsch PACS portfolio. It is fully firmware, function, and communication protocol compatible to the rest of the Hirsch product line.
Identiv’s uTrust TS Government Reader Family are robust FICAM-certified readers for common access key (CAK) validation systems, enabling compliance with FIPS 201, FIPS 140-2, and NIST SP800-116 publications. The readers support all major credentials, including PIV, PIV-I, CIV, CAC, with optional support for legacy proximity cards, and are offered at a fraction of the cost of competing products.
A future expansion is planned to include 3VR by Identiv’s VisionPoint™ Video Management Software (VMS) for channel surveillance. VisionPoint VMS combines powerful forensic search capabilities and integrated video analytics in a single intuitive interface. It provides the tools to gather intelligence from video, speed up searches, and easily develop cases. It can be installed on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, on certified partner hardware, and is included on any of 3VR by Identiv’s powerful network/hybrid video recorders (NVRs/HVRs).
Benefits
With almost 40 years of physical security experience, Identiv’s government-grade physical PACS solutions are robust, extremely reliable, feature rich, and while designed and developed with the most secure facilities in mind, are priced to install anywhere.
When it was in need of a complete, end-to-end, highly secure access control solution, even one of the highest-profile U.S. Army bases knew it could trust Identiv to protect its doors.
