Cisco Partnership: The Internet of Everything

Today, we have the pleasure of writing about an exciting new partnership between Cisco Systems and Identiv, focused on the Internet of Everything (IoE). Kip Compton, Vice President, Internet of Things Systems & Software Group, Cisco Systems, also blogged about the partnership today.

We’re excited to be working closely with Cisco Systems as our visions are completely aligned — everything is connecting. IoE is the intelligent connection of people, processes, data, and things to the Internet, bringing unprecedented economic opportunities to both the private and public sectors. Cisco Systems have calculated that IoE-based solutions can deliver US $19 trillion of economic value worldwide over the next decade.

Physical access is changing rapidly and is on track to become another element of an enterprise IoE, but this must be done securely by utilizing open standards such as ethernet networking, PKI, and digital certificates.  Identiv is investing significantly and partnering with Cisco to deliver a next-generation, secure, networked physical access (PACS) solution that interacts with other IoE elements, such as cameras from the Cisco VSM and Cisco VoIP telephony.

Identiv will offer a completely network-based access control system, including credentials, advanced networked uTrust TS door readers, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) door controllers, and access control software. Customers gain significantly enhanced value and lower installation costs and complexity by using standards-based network cabling, leading to reduced TCO and improved ROI.

Cisco will resell the solution and the other components as part of its physical security solution lineup and include uTrust SmartID Credentials from the cloud-based Identiv idOnDemand service. Cisco and Identiv expect that the solution will be available in the second half of 2015. In the months following the launch, we plan to release updates to iPAM with new features and functionality.
