Identiv Strengthens IoT Security with Launch of RFID Tags for Anti-Counterfeiting, Document Authentication, Supply Chain Traceability, Data Access, and Customer Engagement

The New Tamper Detection NTAG 424 DNA Tag Makes Identiv the First Tag Manufacturer to Achieve Certification in the NFC Forum Certification Program

FREMONT, Calif., March 20, 2019Identiv, Inc. (NASDAQ: INVE) today announced that the company has launched Identiv NTAG® 424 DNA Tags, its new family of labels that leverage NXP® (NASDAQ:NXPI) NTAG® 424 DNA chips, strengthening Identiv’s radio-frequency identification (RFID) offerings that provide security for the Internet of Things (IoT). With the new Tamper Detection NTAG 424 DNA Tag (utilizing NXP’s TagTamper chip), Identiv has successfully become the first tag manufacturer to receive certification in the NFC Forum Certification Program.

Identiv NTAG 424 DNA Tags use NXP’s state-of-the-art secure authentication chip, introducing security, privacy, and trust for NFC IoT applications while providing the most efficient method of digitally connecting products. The new tags leverage the native security mechanism within the attack-resistant certified chip and are designed for use in secure IoT applications, including anti-counterfeiting for brand protection, document authentication, secure supply chain traceability (i.e., product origin and provenance), authorized data access, and trusted customer engagement, including loyalty programs.

“Through our partnership with NXP, we are bringing to market advanced NFC products using IoT-ready chips delivering proven, protected communication on contactless interfaces. Strong security and interoperability are the main pillars for faster adoption of NFC in IoT applications,” said Stephane Ardiley, Identiv Director of Product Management, Credentials and Transponders. “Being the first to complete NFC Forum certification demonstrates our leading ability to develop trusted RFID solutions compatible with all NFC-enabled devices.”

“NXP enables secure connections for a smarter world. Our latest silicon-based advancements in attack-resistant certified NFC chip technology now make it possible to deliver privacy-enabled, multi-layered security for NFC and IoT authentication applications,” said Alexander Rensink, NXP Business Segment Manager of Smart Products. “By incorporating NTAG 424 DNA and achieving NFC Forum accreditation, Identiv has proven its innovation and commitment to making the IoT more secure and accessible. Such solutions are critical in achieving a new level of trust in today’s digitized consumer and business applications.”

The NTAG 424 DNA and 424 DNA TagTamper chips work with all NFC-enabled devices, including Android™ and iOS®, and support real-time authentication based on AES-128 encryption, similar to one-time tokens. The chips come with enhanced privacy features to support the latest regulation for privacy-protected user data and also enable a three-pass mutual authentication scheme. The TagTamper version adds tamper-proofing, enabling applications to determine if a product has been tampered with or damaged. Both chip models are hardware-certified against Common Criteria EAL4 for hardware and software.

Identiv’s innovative RFID, NFC, and inlay transponder portfolio brings smart identities and security to the IoT, features unique form factors and different shapes and finishes, and is available as dry inlays, wet inlays, printed labels, tickets, PVC cards, and more. The new Identiv Tamper Detection NTAG 424 DNA Tag just received certification proving full conformance with NFC Forum specifications, making Identiv the first transponder manufacturer to receive NFC Forum accreditation. Identiv’s team is expert in designing and manufacturing high-frequency (HF) and ultra high-frequency (UHF) transponders for embedded use in everyday objects and specializes in custom inlay design for any application, offering an endless variety of tags that can be produced to match any radio-frequency (RF) performance or security requirement.

“Identiv’s Tamper Detection NTAG 424 DNA Tag achieved approval under the NFC Forum Certification Program,” said Paula Hunter, NFC Forum Executive Director. “The NFC tag’s performance and interoperability were tested and verified by an NFC Forum-approved test lab to earn industry certification. Certification is an important step for tag manufacturers because the NFC Forum Certification Program ensures that the entire NFC ecosystem — NFC tags, readers, and handsets — provide consistent, compelling, and connected user experiences.”
